Worldwide Grassroots Groups Join Together In Global Alliance Against Fluoridation

Safe Water Coalition of Washington State is pleased to announce the formation of Global Alliance Against Fluoridation (GAAF), an international coalition of grassroots organizations representing the concerns of millions of people. The purpose is to provide the public with current scientific evidence on the health hazards of fluoridation and to facilitate an end to this dangerous policy of adding a toxic industrial waste product to public water supplies.

Box 20832, Park West Station, New York, NY 10025-1516; tel.: 212-665-1757, GAAF will coordinate information from over 330 organizations in the US, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, Israel. The immediate focus is our opposition to the American Dental Association's (ADA) Goal 2000 - federally-mandated nationwide fluoridation by year 2000 - a step toward ADA's ultimate goal of worldwide fluoridation.

The anti-fluoridation constituency consists of a vast army of dedicated lay people, scientists, medical professionals, public officials, et al., who recognize that fluoride has never been scientifically proven safe or effective and that, indeed, a huge body of scientific data, which includes US government, state and university research studies, implicates fluoride and fluoridation in serious human health problems, such as cancer, increased hip fractures, osteoporosis, learning disabilities, IQ deficits.

The ADA has acknowledged fluoride's potential harm in its warning to parents to allow their children only a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, and the recent lowering of supplemental fluoride dosage recommendations for children. Moreover, ADA does not dispute the fact that the incidence of fluoride poisoning in the form of mottled teeth is rising along with dental costs for capping that far exceed the costs of cavities. Dentists are clearly reaping the benefits of fluoridation.
